Once in a great while a band rises from the ashes and is able to transform not only the shape and direction of music, but also life as we know it. These bands descend down from the heavens and grace the common people with their special gifts. These bands light up the sky with the shear power of their talent and conviction. The first of these bands is Merle.
From the depths of Portland, Oregon comes a sound so wrought with force one would think the crust of the earth is being ripped off to make way for an intergalactic parking lot. Michael "Behold my Mighty Voice" Burles, Chris "Don't hate me because my arms are as big as your puny head" Lytsell, Adam "It was like that when I got here" Stonewall and Chris "I meant to do that" Ward comprise Merle, a band that is destined to redefine music as we know it.
Merle spawned from the friendship of Stonewall and Ward, who decided they owe it to the world to share their musical geniuses. Mr. Ward was already well versed in guitar, and was to be the backbone of the group. Mr. Stonewall was the beneficiary of years of musical training as a child, but picked up his first bass during the formation of the band. Upon hearing the God-like vocals of Mr. Burles, the band knew they had their lead singer. All that was left was to find the perfect drummer. He must be insane with power, creative, and have no regard for the audience whatsoever. After a world-wide search, Mr. Lytsell was found right here in Merle's own backyard. The band was complete.
Less than a year into existence, Merle has already been making headway into the local music scene. Songs such as "Cate and Joe's Naked Love Song," "Prime," "Spook House" and "Baio" have captivated audiences in two states, and from as far away as Canada. And what does the future hold for our beloved heroes? Only time will tell.
